Innovation in blade attachment
Dec 16, 2020
What?
May we introduce – something truly amazing and completely new: the installation of figure skate blades is now being taken to a new level with an innovation developed by the Lucky Skate team of experts, which maximizes the figure skater's power transmission to the ice, as well as skating feel and precision, promoting health and preventing injuries.
Why?
The development of the blade attachment innovation is driven by the desire to find a solution to three main themes related to figure skaters' health, skating feel and technique:
- Healthy figure skater - prevention of foot, knee, hip and back misalignments and the resulting strain-related ailments
- Power transmission to the ice - optimizing foot loading and lower limb power generation through the interaction of the skate boot and blade.
- Skating feel and precision - increases precision and feel when using the blade
Expert team
In addition to Lucky Skate's expert and professional team, the following have worked behind our blade attachment development project:
- Sasu Hyytiä, podiatrist, specialist in musculoskeletal disorders of the lower extremities
- Elina Järvinen (née Kettunen), sports physiotherapist and former Finnish Olympic figure skating representative: www.fysiomovelina.fi/fysioterapeutti
- Maurizio Margaglio, Youth Olympic coach and world ice dancing champion

How?
Once the skater has been individually selected the best possible skate boot and blade, it is of paramount importance to ensure that the blade is attached to the figure skate boot correctly and accurately. In addition to the boot and blade, the skater's individual characteristics are taken into account when attaching the blade:
- The shape and design of a skater's foot
- The transmission of a skater's power to the ice – the "rope dancer's rope"
- Skater's personal preference/liking
In order to take into account the skater's own preferences, the blades are attached with only the "sizing" screws in the first stage of installation. This allows us to finalize the exact positioning of the blade when the skater has tested the blades on the ice. After the ice testing, based on the skater's personal feedback, we install the remaining screws or correct the position of the blades, after which the skater tests the blades on the ice again until the final result is the best possible.
Customer satisfaction is a matter of pride for us. We offer a 100% full satisfaction guarantee for our renewed blade mounting service. If you are not satisfied, you will get your money back.
We are looking forward to soon being able to tell you more about what other innovative tools will be added to this service in the near future to support the development of Finnish figure skaters!
With enthusiastic development greetings,
The Lucky Skate team
